St Francis Bay is a place of compelling beauty, unlike any in South Africa. Only an hour from Port Elizabeth, it is a visual delight of charming white thatched cottages, spectacular beaches and tranquil beauty of the residential marine known as the canals. 

Its landscapes are a technicolour dreamscape of swirling golden dunes and turquoise waters, mirages and shimmering canals. It offers an astounding variety and abundance of wildlife and a landscape that provides a breathtaking backdrop for it. Its coastal region is one of the world’s most captivating areas.

Its wide horizons, clear blue skies and an incredibly low density of population generate a sense of freedom. Its stillness, combined with a landscape full of contrasts of light and shade make it a beautiful and unusual destination.

About half of St Francis is constructed around the largest man made web of canals and waterways in Africa. The Kromme River famous for the beautiful wild flowers that bloom along its banks, meanders up to the ocean, providing a paradise for anglers, windsurfers and boaters.
 

St Francis is also a surfer’s paradise, the waters of the bay are world famous for their perfect surfing waves and ideally suited to almost any type of water sport. In addition, it’s a ten minute drive to Jeffrey’s Bay, one of the world’s best surfing spots, where events like the Billabong Challenge are held every year.

For horse riding fans, both the Village and the neighbouring Oyster Bay have several beautiful horse farms and trails, for superb rides among the sand dunes. Hiking and biking enthusiasts can lose themselves in the natural beauty of the area with superb trails in the nature reserve, along the dune river system or the vast white beaches.

For international visitors exploring the rest of SA there are frequent flights from PE to Joburg, Cape Town and Durban, with direct links to Europe.
